Insipring youth into tech in Kibera
Inspiring youth through mentorship and example
About This Project
The Ahyel Foundation’s “Street to School Guardian” began addressing the problem of out of school children in Nigeria. The program was designed to create a compelling pathway from the streets back into the classroom. It achieved this by providing the necessary support and encouragement for out-of-school children to enrol in formal education, and second, by inspiring those already in school with a vision for their future.
Building on this model, EKDA started this initiative of inspiring youth into technology by inviting them into workshops in which they get mentored by experienced engineers with the aim of illustrating a pathway of a future into tech.
In the current workshop, EKDA has selected 40 students whom will be invited into the microsoft garage in Nairobi. Here a demonstration of how to build a computer from basic components will be given to then. This will then be followed by an illustration of how to write a program on the computer they have just built.
To truly expand their horizons, the experience will culminate with an exploration of Virtual Reality (VR) sets, offering a thrilling glimpse into the future of technology.
